If you are like most of us, I am sure you reveled in the joy of playing a joke or two on a family member, friend or co-worker. However, like most of us, I am sure you never learned where all this folly and mischief began. From April fish, to the Hilaria, we will learn all about this hysteria.

“On this day in 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other. Although the day, also called All Fools’ Day, has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures, its exact origins remain a mystery. Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.”

Proverbs 14:15 KJVS

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

It would be foolish of us to believe what is being said (even if it is coming from some form of government) without doing our research. You simply absorb everything being said because it comes from some form of government or authority. Failing to realize, that some organizations have agendas. Think about it… How am I the fool for observing what has been in place for thousands of years and can be substantiated through nature, science, and astronomy? But since I won’t accept your agenda you will use your power to single me and such as be like out, and make us the butt of all the jokes. Not enough for you to just make changes, you need to ridicule and humiliate those that don’t change.

Romans 16:17-18 KJVS

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. [18] For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

People love using fancy words and beautiful speeches to make themselves sound good; make themselves sound more sophisticated and educated. To get people to marvel at them. But someone with some wisdom is going to look at the substance of the conversation. What is this person really talking about?

Proverbs 10:23 KJVS

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

See, some people get a kick out of doing foolish stuff all the time. This just gives them a pass to do the most. Take it to the next level, go the extra step. That is not how you want to be. Someone with some wisdom will know that I cannot operate getting a kick out of someone else pain, anger, or sorrow. I can’t play with everybody like that. Pulling the wrong prank can get someone physically or psychologically messed up. And may possibly cause me to get hurt or lose my life.

Ecclesiastes 10:1,6 KJVS

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. [6] Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

Sometimes you have to realize that even your position may put you in a place where you can no longer play like that. It will be received differently. And that is both for direct leaders and even those attached to them; spouse or child. You have to carry yourself a certain way. You can’t let your hair down around everybody. Unfortunately, but you will be more prone to offend.

On the other hand, people love foolishness. Especially in this day and age. The foolishness is uplifted. But those who are rich in wisdom are not elevated the same. There platforms receive little to no accolades and esteem. If I am not acting a fool and cussing up a storm then I ain’t a real one. But that is what happens when folly is set in great dignity.

“Historians have also linked April Fools’ Day to ancient festivals such as Hilaria, which was celebrated in Rome at the end of March and involved people dressing up in disguises. There’s also speculation that April Fools’ Day was tied to the vernal equinox, or first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, when Mother Nature fooled people with changing, unpredictable weather.”

Genesis 8:22 KJVS

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

People may have felt like the earth is playing tricks on people because the weather is changing. Not realizing God set this up. The earth was designed to have seasonal changes. And this has been a consistent thing for thousands of years. The earth ain’t all of a sudden start acting brand new. The weather is so on point you can actually predict it. Hence the doppler radar. The weather, similar to the stars and planets, have a system they follow. They have a pattern.

“The custom of setting aside a day for the playing of harmless pranks upon one's neighbor is recognized everywhere.[dubious – discuss] Some precursors of April Fools' Day include the Roman festival of Hilaria, the Holi festival of India, and the Medieval Feast of Fools.”

The word Hilaria would remind you of what? Hilarious. And it was not limited to pranks, no, it was even tied into the worship of other gods.

“Hilaria,  in Roman religion, day of merriment and rejoicing in the Cybele-Attis cult and in the Isis-Osiris cult, March 25 and November 3, respectively. It was one of several days in the festival of Cybele that honoured Attis, her son and lover: March 15, his finding by Cybele among the reeds on the bank of the River Gallus; March 22, his self-mutilation; March 24, fasting and mourning at his death; and March 25, the Hilaria, rejoicing at his resurrection. Some of the activities on the Hilaria resembled those associated with April Fools’ Day. November 3, the Hilaria of the Isis-Osiris cult, marked the resurrection of Osiris, husband of Isis.”

Leviticus 18:6-7 KJVS

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. [7] The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Some of these so-called gods that are celebrated and worshipped, also had incestuous relationships. Things The Most High God has said is unlawful for us to do.

“Feast of Fools, popular festival during the Middle Ages, held on or about January 1, particularly in France, in which a mock bishop or pope was elected, ecclesiastical ritual was parodied, and low and high officials changed places. Such festivals were probably a Christian adaptation of the pagan festivities of the Saturnalia. By the 13th century these feasts had become a burlesque of Christian morality and worship. In spite of repeated prohibitions and penalties imposed by the Council of Basel in 1431, the feasts did not die out entirely until the 16th century.”

Jeremiah 10:2 KJVS

Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

You must understand that God does not want us learning these practices of the other nations as it goes against him. Don’t be caught up in the awe and wonder as to how and what they do. But rather fear God and keep his commandments.

Proverbs 15:13 KJVS

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

The scriptures teach us balance. A happy mind will help you to think and act better. Which on the flip side, if you have a mind that is depressed and sorrowful you will carry yourself accordingly; walking around with your head down.

Ecclesiastes 10:19 KJVS

A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

Like the scriptures teach, there is a time and place for everything. And a feast is made for laughter, to enjoy ourself and have a good time.

Psalm 75:4 KJVS

I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
