Guardian Angel

We have heard it often growing up…guardian angel. But does such a title or phrase hold any weight? Is there such a thing as a guardian angel and does the bible show us this to be true?

Job 4:18 KJVS

Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

God has charged, meaning ordered or appointed his angels with folly or foolishness. Why? Well let us get a precept.

Psalm 91:11 KJVS

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

This is the key to understanding the role and purpose of a guardian angel. They are given commands by The Most High God. And that is to keep us; help us, guide us in all of our decisions and the navigation of this life.

Job 4:18 KJVS

Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

But they have been charged with foolishness because it didn’t help us the way God intended. Not that the angels were useless but rather that we still chose to do wrong and sin. Also showing that a guardian angel is less of a sin stopper, so to speak, but rather as a sin deterrent. You still have the power and ability to override the “guide” and the path it is trying to safely lead you on.

Psalm 91:9-11 KJVS

Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; [10] There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. [11] For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

The Most High’s protection is enhanced and made secure by you choosing to make God your habitation; meaning your home or place of dwelling. This is done through the application of his laws and commandments. That is how we escape the evil that can come upon us for failing to do so and have aid from heaven to help keep us from falling short as we strive to do the right thing. But if we sin, all this turns to evil and becomes the opposite.

1 Chronicles 21:14-15 KJVS

So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. [15] And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Now you are witnessing the opposite. David brought sin in the camp, as Satan used him to attack the nation. Now judgment comes into place and God must destroy instead of protect. Whereas one had a guardian angel, now you have a destroying angel.

Psalm 91:7 KJVS

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

If you do well, you will have the protection you seek. People may be suffering and dying around you, yet, somehow you are safe from all of the destruction going on.

Isaiah 37:33-36 KJVS

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. [34] By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. [35] For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. [36] Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

The Most High uses his angels to carry out his blessings and his curses to fulfill whatever his will is at that time. You want to be on the right side of the fence when that sword swings so you don’t get hit. You want God to send an angel to protect you and save you from your enemies.

Psalm 91:5-6 KJVS

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; [6] Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

When we are in a good place with God; a righteous place. We do not need to live in fear of calamities and what may or may not befall you. As you know God will come and deliver you or prevent such things from befalling you in the first place. Using his angels as tools to help carry out and fulfill that purpose.

Exodus 9:6 KJV

And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

God knows how to use pinpoint accuracy in how he curses one and blesses another. He can send a tornado through and hit everybody else’s house on the block except for yours.

Psalm 91:4 KJVS

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

God will ensure you are protected from harm when you are with him. But the key to that protection and the level of it is based on his truth, being the source of our “shield and buckler” meaning our defense. What is his truth?

Psalm 119:142 KJV

Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

For his law is the truth. That is our defense that activates his protection utilized through his angels. If you want maximum protection then maximize your application of the laws.

Genesis 20:2-7 KJVS

And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. [3] But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife. [4] But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? [5] Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this. [6] And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her. [7] Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.

God can look out for us in ways we least expect and can be ignorant of. And others can even be blessed or saved through us. Abimelech was not intentionally trying to sin but was saved through Abrahams righteousness that God chose not to allow Abimelech to sin in this thing.

Psalm 91:2 KJVS

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

When you do right you no longer have to be confused on if God has your back. You know God will come through for you and you trust and believe in him to deliver you from all trials and tribulations.

Zechariah 1:12-15 KJVS

Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? [13] And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. [14] So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. [15] And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

This is how things work, God tells the angels and they tell us or move accordingly they don’t act on their own. Now they are not purely robots but they act within the instructions or orders they are given. They don’t speak or act on things they don’t know.

Psalm 91:14-15 KJVS

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. [15] He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
